B. Cleaning Up Linked Revit Model

  1. To download a Revit model, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the “.\06 Download + Upload\” directory within the Project Folder. There should be a .txt or .docx file with link, username, and password for downloading the Revit model file from a remote location.

  1. After downloading has completed, save Revit Model(s) on the server in the appropriate project folder within the following directory structure:
    1. ".\06 Download + Upload\20XX-XX-XX Revit Model Update\".

  1. Open Revit. Navigate to File > Open > Project.
    1. Go to the folder you downloaded the drawings to in section B.2.a.
    2. Select Detach from Central under Worksharing and click Open.
    3. Ignore any errors that occur until the file is successfully opened.
  1. Go to R > Save As > Project. Navigate to “.\11 Drawings\Revit\Original\”.
    1. Click Options and edit Maximum backups field to a value of (1).
    2. Check Make this a Central Model after save.
    3. Ensure that the Open workset default is set to Last Viewed.
    4. Rename the file in the following manner:
      1. RXX PROJECT-ABBREVIATION (CONSULTANT ABBREVIATION-DISCIPLINE)
      2. Where RXX denotes the version of Revit used for the project.
  1. Go to the Ribbon > Insert > Manage Links > Manage Link dialog box.
    1. Check each tab for associated files and remove them from the project.
    2. Delete all Revit links by selecting each Revit file and clicking Remove.
    3. Delete all IFC links by selecting each IFC file and clicking Remove.
    4. Delete all CAD Format links by selecting each CAD Format file and clicking Remove.
    5. Delete all DWF Markup links by selecting each DWF Markup file and clicking Remove.
    6. Delete all Point Cloud links by selecting each Point Cloud file and clicking Remove.
    7. Click OK.
  1. In the Project Browser, delete the following components:
    1. Views
      1. 3D Views
      2. Legends
      3. Schedules/Quantities
  1. Go to the Ribbon > Manage > Purge Unused > Purge Unused dialog box.
    1. Click Check All.
    2. Click OK.
    3. Repeat sections B.7.a and B.7.b as many times as is necessary until the Number of items checked equals zero (0).
  1. Go to R > Save As > Project. Navigate to “.\11 Drawings\Revit\Original\”.
    1. Click Options and edit Maximum backups field to a value of (1).
    2. Check Make this a Central Model after save.
    3. Check Compact File.
    4. Overwrite the file you previously saved in section B.4.d.
  1. Go to File > Close, to close the file.
  1. Repeat this procedure for all Revit files linked into the æ central model.
 
  1. If this project is in design, i.e. this is not the first time you are doing this, and a Central model has already been created, please inform all the designers working on the project so that they can synchronize and create a new local model to update the background in the correct manner. Simply reloading latest will not always synchronize the changes made to the Architectural model.
